Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments were revealed.

This included attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the magistrate said information from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's aim to disable the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.
