Ten convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of circulating fabrications regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the pair's significant age difference.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of up to eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A circulating conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the first lady's identity.
Their lawsuit states that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she taught at his lycée.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
